How ordering cut to size foam works
- Enter your measurements. Length, width and thickness in centimetres, using the calculator above.
- Choose your foam density. Softer for backs and mattresses, firmer for seating, or memory foam for pressure relief.
- We cut and dispatch. Every piece is cut to order and sent direct to your door.
Choose your foam density
Density is what determines how firm your foam feels and how long it lasts. It is measured in kilograms per cubic metre — a higher number means more foam per litre, which means better support and a longer life.
| Foam type | Density | Feel | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| White | 28 kg/m³ | Softer | Back cushions, scatter cushions, mattresses and anywhere you want comfort over support. |
| Blue (high density) | 33 kg/m³ | Firmer | Seat cushions, sofa seats, dining chairs, window seats and benches. The most durable and longest lasting option, and our usual recommendation for anything you sit on. |
| Memory foam | 60 kg/m³ | Conforming | Mattress toppers, made-to-measure mattresses and pressure relief. Moulds to your body and returns to shape. |
If you are unsure, the rule of thumb is simple: if you sit on it, choose Blue high density foam. If you lean on it or sleep on it, choose White or Memory.
What our cut to size foam is used for
Sofa cushion foam and upholstery foam
Replacement sofa cushion foam is the most common reason people order from us. Sagging seat cushions rarely mean the sofa is finished — the frame usually outlasts the foam by years. Measure your existing cushion cover, order Blue high density upholstery foam cut to size, and the sofa sits like new again for a fraction of the cost of replacing it.
Seating, dining chairs and bench cushions
Dining chair pads, church and hall seating, bay window seats, kitchen benches and built-in banquettes. Seating foam cut to size in the Blue 33 kg/m³ density will hold its shape under daily use far better than the thin pads most furniture ships with.
Caravan, campervan and boat cushions
Caravan and campervan seating is almost never a standard size, and boat cushions are frequently cut to awkward shapes around a hull. Because every piece here is made to order, an unusual measurement costs no more than a common one.
Mattress foam cut to measure
Bunk beds, campervan beds, day beds, boat berths, cot and crib bases, and any bed frame that is not a standard UK size. Foam mattresses cut to size in Memory or White foam let you fit the space you actually have.
Garden and outdoor furniture
Replacement foam for garden benches, rattan sets, sun loungers and outdoor dining seating.
Sizes we can cut
- Maximum single piece: 203 cm × 116 cm (80 × 46 inches)
- Thickness: from 1 cm up to 100 cm
- Minimum length and width: 10 cm
Need something larger than 203 × 116 cm? Larger projects are usually made from two pieces butted together, which is standard practice for big window seats and bed-width mattresses. Get in touch and we will advise on the best way to split it.
We cut rectangles through the calculator above. Circles, radius corners and bevelled edges are also possible — contact us before ordering and we will quote for the shape you need.
Why order your foam from FoamNest
- Cut to order in the UK. Nothing is pre-cut or sitting in a warehouse waiting for a close-enough match.
- Never vacuum compressed or roll packed. Your foam arrives at its full loft and is ready to use immediately, with no waiting days for it to recover its shape.
- Genuine density options. Stated in kg/m³, so you know exactly what you are buying rather than guessing from words like "firm".
- Priced by volume. You pay for the foam you actually order, so small pieces stay genuinely cheap.
Frequently asked questions
How do I measure for replacement sofa cushion foam?
Measure the cushion cover, not the old foam. Foam compresses as it ages, so a worn insert can be several centimetres smaller than the cover it came in. Measure the cover flat, then order that size — foam should fill the cover firmly rather than slide around inside it.
What density of foam is best for a sofa seat?
Blue high density foam at 33 kg/m³. Seat cushions carry your full body weight every time you sit down, so density matters far more there than on a back cushion. Softer foam in a seat will feel comfortable at first and then flatten.

Before you order
Can I get foam cut to a non-rectangular shape?
Yes. The calculator on this page prices rectangles, but circles, radius corners and bevelled edges can all be cut. Contact us with your shape and measurements for a quote.
How accurate is the cutting?
Foam is cut to your stated dimensions on professional cutting equipment. Because foam is a soft material, allow a small tolerance rather than expecting an exact machined edge — this is normal for all cut to size foam and is why measuring the cover rather than the old insert matters.
Is cut to size foam returnable?
Because every piece is cut specifically to your measurements, custom cut foam is made to order and cannot be resold. Please double check your measurements before ordering. If something arrives incorrect or faulty, contact us and we will put it right.
Is your foam fire retardant?
Yes. The foam we cut is supplied to meet the UK Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988, at no extra cost and on every grade we sell — white, high-density blue and memory foam.
How long does delivery take?
Your foam is cut to order and dispatched direct to your delivery address. Timescales depend on the size of the piece and the courier used for it — larger pieces travel on a different service to small ones.
